Asthma occurs when the small air passages in the lungs become constricted or narrowed, making breathing very difficult. Spinal malpositions and joint restrictions can irritate nerves in the upper spine near the shoulders that help to regulate how open the air passages stay during both normal breathing and during activity. Because the ribs attach to the spine and have to move properly in order to ensure normal lung function, when the joints that connect them to the spine become restricted, it can make it more difficult to breath freely. Chiropractic adjustments can help mobilize spinal and rib restrictions as well as stimulate the nerves that help give proper function to the lungs.
